THE CUTTY SARK (1870)
The clipper CUTTY SARK, designed in 1869, was built at Dumbarton in Scotland in 1870 by Denny, though her hull was laid in 1869 by Scott & Linton. She was famous for her record trips to China for the commerce of tea, and later to Australia. 212.5 ft long, the CUTTY SARK had a displacement of 965 tons.

Built of teak and elm wood, she carried cargoes of 615 tons of tea, or 900 tons of cotton. Her maximum speed was 17'6 knots. The CUTTY SARK is now at Greenwich Naval Museum in England as one of the most famous specimens of heroic sailing days.
